Hello! I’m Lisa Swerdlow, MA, Special Education Advocate and Founder of ChampionEd.

As a wife and proud mom to three amazing kids, two with IEPs, I know firsthand the joys and challenges of raising children with diverse needs. Growing up in West LA and navigating the local public school system as a student, parent, and professional has given me a unique perspective and a deep commitment to guiding families through their own journeys.

My passion for advocating for children with disabilities began over 20 years ago as a Special Day Class teacher. In that role, I developed and implemented IEPs, collaborated with school teams, and created inclusive learning environments that celebrated each student’s strengths. My dual perspective as both educator and parent allows me to provide practical, empathetic, and effective solutions.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in General Education, and an Education Specialist Teaching Credential. I am a proud member of COPAA (Council of Parents Attorneys and Advocates), and have completed SEAT 2, their nationally recognized advocacy certification program. I regularly attend trainings and conferences to stay current with research and best practices.
When I’m not advocating, you can find me at the do-jang with my kids. As a third-degree black belt in taekwondo, I bring the same principles of integrity, perseverance, and indomitable spirit at the heart of my training into my advocacy work. I believe that strong collaboration between families and schools leads to the best outcomes, benefiting not only individual students but also the communities around them.
Navigating special education can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. With personalized support, we can champion success together.
You are a champion! I’ve got your back every step of the way.
